2010 Schoolboy Report It’s that time of year once again, when we report on the racing season and the performances of our riders. 2010 has been a good year for our boys, nothing spectacular just steady progress.
Our riders generally have ridden the litherland series, with brief forays in Preston and Lancaster. The MCDA events at Litherland was a eighteen week season. Our Andy Gibson is a committee member and race organiser. This has been a season long commitment on his behalf, probably earning “earache” in big doses from his wife Rebecca.
The high point of our riders has been our U16 rider John Pugh, who had numerous wins. The opposition he met was not testing him to the limits, consequently part way thro the season they gave him clearance to ride against the juniors. Were he did no harm to his confidence. Watch John in 2011 when he will be a junior !!!
In the U14’s following a bad crash on the training W/E in Wales, Sean Fawcett had a season out, however in October he returned to do some social riding, welcome back Sean.
Whilst, Adam Gibson has had a steady season, Adam has not shown his full potential yet. He will no doubt step up to the next level in due course. Enjoy your riding Adam, that is the first priority.
U12’s George Bennett, son of Andy has shown AWOL this season, not seen Andy to ask him why. Hope-fully 2011 will see him again on the track !!
U10’s We have Dan Gibson action man, Dan gives his all week after week. Dan has been winning at Litherland and Preston. He tells me he has £100 plus in the bank, not all from racing though. At least Dad Andy knows where to go when he is skint to replenish funds. Well done Dan an excellent season.
Also in this group although only eight, in his first season is George Elliot. What can I say about George, apart from being a little chatterbox. Well he has plugged away, despite the gap in age and ability in this age group. Acquitting himself with distinction. Although Dad Phil tells me he puts more effort in the Sunday rides, and drops Phil on the hills. 2011 will see him hopefully transfer Sunday effort to Wednesday racing.
Our youngest rider a new recruit this season is 5 year old Sam Kendall, he started the season club-less, Andy persuaded Dad Ian to join the Century. Ian is a cyclo-cross rider competing in this years 3 Peaks event. Sam performs on a miniature racing bike, drop handlebars etc. Twiddling away lap after lap, supported and encouraged by Mum & Dad trackside. Despite being lapped by the bigger riders he sticks to his task each week. A big welcome to the Kendall family and well done.
Also to all other Mums and Dads for their support. Keep at it, and maybe you will end up as seasoned Pro’s like our former schoolboys namely Matt Brammeier, Mark McNally and Johnny McEvoy who attended this years Dinner and Prize Presentation.
A Merry Xmas and a fruitful 2011 season to all our riders.

| Y.Squad Report May 09 Following on from last months report, herewith the latest results of our riders. Bearing in mind last season we had nine active riders across the age groups.
This season has gone pear shaped, with only three riders to date representing the club at races. We lost Leighton Sharman to the Eastlands club, his brother Lewis Sharman is not racing to his Dads annoyance. We have not seen Reid Rogers or Sean Fawcett and Niall Farington this season. For what reason we know not. Whilst we have new members Sean Hughes and recently joining Andy Bennetts son George making four active riders.
Anyway enough of the bad news here are recent results.
Dan Gibson our youngest rider has continued on with last seasons good form, 4th April Dan finished 2nd overall in the Dolan series with a 3rd (scr event) 5th (H/cap) just missing out on a 1st prize of a Dolan frame.
On the 1st Pre-ston Arena event he had a 3rd place, the 2nd week another 3rd and a 10th place at Thameside in the National Circuit event. 3rd at Preston he finished an excellent start to the season.
Sean Hughes in his first racing season has also acquitted himself with honour. Sean did not ride the two first events at Southport, only the final event finishing 10th (scr) and 10th (H/cap) at the second Preston event he crashed with a lap to go and at the 3rd Preston he finished. Sean has to rely on the goodwill of others for a lift to events, which does limit his riding.
Our most active rider by far is Dan Whelan, I should imagine his Mum’s (Denise) car never stops moving. I hate to think what her fuel bill is each month. Dan’s programme covers MTB events ACT track league plus circuit racing. In one calendar month he has ridden fourteen events of one discipline or another. Herewith Dan’s highlights;-
22/3/09 National event Yarborough 20th
23/3/09 ACT Track 3rd and 2nd
28/3/09 Dolan Series 9th and 6th

20/4/09 ACT Track 3rd
21/4/09 Saltaire SACA series 2nd (8 points) against U 23’s and over 23’s.
He had six days rest 5/4/09 to 11/4/09 “Perpetual motion” is his middle name. Well done Dan is the least I can say !!
Needless to say in the U16’s club circuit championship Dan 6pts leads Sean 5pts after one counting event and Dan Gibson 6pts in the U 8’s.
Incidentally Dan Whelan’s performances have come to the notice of the NW British Cycling as he has now been drafted into the BC Talent team.
Last weekend Bank Holiday is the I.O.M. followed by NW Champs results next month.
Stop Press Dan Whelan won the last stage in the I.O.M. Youth Tour. First schoolboy Centurion to win since Andy Mills. Congratulations Dan and well done from all at the club.

| Y.quad Report April 09 A very quiet start to the 2009 racing season, depite the weather, which has been reasonable. Not as bad as previous years.
The season started in the NW with an event on 7/3 at Shrewsbury. Were Dan Gibson had a 5th place. The following week 14/3 CDNW held an event at Southport Dan Gibson had a 6th (scratch) 5th (handicap) to finish 5th overall.
On the same day Dan Whelan finished 4th at Shrewsbury whilst Sean Hughes rode the CDNW finishing 26th (T.T.) and 24th (crit) finishing 24th overall. His first competitive ride in our colours.
21/3 saw the first of 3 events at Southport according to BC website Dan Gibson was our only rider finishing 3rd (scr) and 2nd (h/cap). 28/3 2nd event at Southport, Dan Gibson finished 2nd—3rd 2nd overall
Dan Whelan finished 9th and ? 6th overall.
Sean Hughes opted to ride the MLCA 10 on 28/3 Pulford were he did a 25.22 for his first ever 10. Well done Sean.
Not heard when Sean Fawcett, Lewis Sharman, John Pugh and Nial Farrington are starting their racing season. I know Nial has only been out a couple of times all winter. Riding the turbo sessions at the club, is not enough to tackle U16‘s racing, you need base miles as well.
STOP PRESS; just heard on the grapevine that Lewis is not racing this season.
So with high hopes of maybe 8/9 schoolboy riders this year. The winter and the loss of interest means we have only at the moment three schoolboys riding.
Well better news next month.
