The club
Club members at the start of club 10 mile time trial in the new club colours 2005 The Liverpool Century Road Club is one of the most progressive, successful and friendly cycling clubs on Merseyside. We cater for a wide variety of cycling activities-social gatherings, touring, general club riding, road racing, time trials, track racing, cyclo-cross , mountain bike racing (you name it and we probably do it)- with the accent always on enjoyment. The club was formed in 1916 and gets its name from the fact that all members were expected to be able to ride at least one hundred miles in a day. That is no longer a requirement but we do encourage our members to ride their bikes often-be it socially or competitively. membership details
Club members at the Old Roan in 1924 The start of the Century 30th January 1916 The 1st paragraph of the 1st Minute Book states;- "Complete unity, harmony, good fellowship, enthusiasm, co-ordination of interest and effort were features of the First Annual Meeting of the L.C.R.C. held around the camp of sport, the Derby Cafe, Ormskirk. The front door was wide open, the glad hand extended, and a hearty welcome given to all members". Proposed names for the club;- Liverpool Century Road Club, Everton Cycling Club, Liverpool Road Club. "The new organisation outlined some of the objects for which it came into existence, to further in every legal way the interests of touring cyclists, also competitive cyclists and to provide a convenient means whereby their aims may be presented in the right quarters". Vice Chairman - Jack Harold the veteran long distance cyclist, was an interesting man in all that was going on. He had a new stock of stories with which he all but convulsed those within earshot when he sprung them.
