Proud dad Matt Sharman has been in touch with us with news of his son Leighton's superb season, culminating in his clinching the under 10 category in the national youth circuit series at the final race at Thruxton. Matt picks up the story -
"Thruxton was the last round of the series and we travelled down on Sunday morning knowing that nothing less than 35pts would do to win the series overall. It was a poor turnout - I suppose people that weren't in contention didn't bother to do this event. Anyway it was 12 laps of the small circuit which included the pit lane and Leighton managed to take both sprint laps and also the win against the series leader David Barnes (Palmer Park) cousin of Hannah Barnes.
The lad knows how to celebrate a win - he's had a lot of practice!
The week before he just missed out to David at the new Hog Hill circuit but took more points again because of winning both sprints.
We have done 7 rounds and dropped Litchfield where he had a poor result after a mechanical and finished 6th that aside the other 6 rounds he has finished no lower than 2nd. He also won the u10's race at the Nat Champs back in July at Preston although non championship for this age cat. So far this season he has had 46 wins.
We plan to do the NW 'cross league for some winter training and has just started attending the sat morn sessions run by eastlands with a view to be coming a 2nd claim."
