Cycling News Cyclists Urged
to Hit the Road
Parents of young cyclists who
are concerned for their children riding on busy roads may be interested in
the new concept of virtual reality cycling. The Liverpool Century Road
Club has invested £3,000 in CompuTrainers in the hope of attracting boys
and girls to the sport.
The state of the art equipment connects a racing bike
to a computer that may be programmed to produce a variety of cycling
conditions, including hill climbs and head winds.
CompuTrainers (above ), Olympic Team Pursuit bronze medallist Jon Clay was the
guest of honour at an open evening at the Liverpool Century RC clubroom at
Tarbock Village Hall
when boys and girls were invited to "come and try it". The grant
for the equipment came from the Millennium Awards For All scheme funded by
the National Lottery.
The club has an excellent record in developing young
talent. Among current members are last year's National Schools Time Trial
Team Champions, Mat and Tim Brammeier and John
Griffiths (Gateacre CCS). Any school or individual wishing to become
involved should contact George Darlington, 48 Gainsborough Ave., Maghull
Liverpool L31 7AY tel. 526 1963.
